Seasonal ecophysiology of Fucus vesiculosus (Phaeophyceae) in the Northern Baltic Sea

چکیده

The brown macroalga Fucus vesiculosus is a foundation species in temperate rocky shores, subjected to seasonally fluctuating environmental conditions. To obtain more complete picture of the seasonality F. ecophysiology northern Baltic Sea, situ photochemistry, elemental ratios and chlorophyll c content alga were investigated field campaigns conducted different months throughout year during 2017. Carbon, nitrogen, carbon nitrogen ratio varied substantially year, with highest observed summer, winter. C:N apical tissue ranged from 8.6 February 48.3 July. Chlorophyll followed inversely seasonal patterns ambient irradiance. High winter was associated higher maximum photosynthetic efficiency energy conversion (Fv/Fm), but not under light limitation (?). Electron transport rate correlated strongly seawater temperature, electron rates summer internal alga. Redundancy analysis on measured variables against physiological responses identified day temperature macronutrients as most important driving ecophysiology. results suggest elevated temperatures may increase growth photosynthesis study area.Highlights Two distinct states identified. The season, macronutrients.Fucus shows substantial Sea.

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Eye function of Mysidacea (Crustacea) in the northern Baltic Sea.

Eye spectral sensitivity, [S(lambda)], was measured in seven northern Baltic mysid species using an electroretinogram technique. Their S(lambda) curves were compared with the spectral distribution of underwater light at their normal habitats. In the littoral species Neomysis integer, Praunus flexuosus and Praunus inermis, the S(lambda) maxima, [S(lambda)(max)], were in the wavelength-bands of 5...

Importance of coastal primary production in the northern Baltic Sea

In this study, we measured depth-dependent benthic microalgal primary production in a Bothnian Bay estuary to estimate the benthic contribution to total primary production. In addition, we compiled data on benthic microalgal primary production in the entire Baltic Sea. In the estuary, the benthic habitat contributed 17 % to the total annual primary production, and when upscaling our data to the...

Frequent Clonality in Fucoids (fucus Radicans and Fucus Vesiculosus; Fucales, Phaeophyceae) in the Baltic Sea(1).

Asexual reproduction by cloning may affect the genetic structure of populations, their potential to evolve, and, among foundation species, contributions to ecosystem functions. Macroalgae of the genus Fucus are known to produce attached plants only by sexual recruitment. Recently, however, clones of attached plants recruited by asexual reproduction were observed in a few populations of Fucus ra...

Dinoflagellate toxins in northern Baltic sea phytoplankton and zooplankton assemblages

The distribution of dinoflagellate toxins (OA, DTXs, PTXs, YTXs) in plankton communities was studied in the northern Baltic Sea during late summers of 2005 and 2006. The phycotoxins were analysed from samples that contained field collected microplankton in the size range of 20–76 μm, zooplankton collected with a net, and individually hand-picked copepods from open-sea and coastal sampling stati...
